Harbor Hall

The Rheba Sutton White Chapel, originally home to Palm Harbor United Methodist Church, was built in 1924 with handmade bricks salvaged from the Florida Southern College Administration Building which had burned in 1921.

To keep their mission intact, church members continued to meet in the school’s undamaged gymnasium. They organized the construction of a new sanctuary and helped hand clean bricks from the fire-damaged building that were used in what would become known as “The White Chapel”. Services for Palm Harbor United Methodist Church began in the new chapel in 1925.

After serving its church community until a newer and larger sanctuary was built in the 1970s, the Chapel served Palm Harbor as its first library and later as a home for FEAST, a community food pantry. As part of an overall downtown revitalization program, Pinellas County purchased the property in 1999, restored the Chapel and built the adjacent Harbor Hall which complements the historic chapel.

In honor of her dedication to the church she grew up in and her efforts for the chapel’s preservation, the name was officially changed to The Rheba Sutton White Chapel in 2005. In August 2013, the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners granted PHCSA / Palm Harbor Parks & Recreation with management of both of these historic facilities.

Harbor Hall and the Historic Rheba Sutton White Chapel are are located at the intersection of Georgia Ave. and 12th Street in Historic Palm Harbor.
